Mitsubishi Electric US, Inc. Cooling & Heating Division (Mitsubishi Electric), a leading manufacturer of Zoned Comfort Solutions™ and Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) cooling and heating systems, announces an update to the popular controller app making home connectivity easier than ever: kumo cloud™. The app provides homeowners control and access to their Mitsubishi Electric systems from anywhere a homeowner can access the internet, providing the ability to customize zone temperatures from the convenience of a cell phone, tablet or desktop.

kumo cloud provides optimization of energy usage and comfort – such as turning off air conditioning in unused rooms or setting individual temperature preferences in each family member’s room. The controller app has answered the demands of the market and can contribute to reducing energy costs by as much as 30 to 40 percent. According to research from The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), every home will have a connected device by 2020. AHAM also projects smart technology, including usage-based design of appliances, and devices for safety, security and energy management will have an economic impact of $250 to $350 billion by 2025. Energy management in particular is expected to account for $110 billion of that impact, according to the McKinsey Global Institute.

The kumo cloud app is compatible with the latest generation of Mitsubishi Electric residential systems. All that is needed for installation is a wireless interface for each indoor unit, an internet connection and a router.

The update allows for a seamless transition when buying or selling a smart home. Professional installers can set up the system in just a few simple steps – install the wireless interface, download and set up the app, and transfer ownership to the homeowner. Once the wireless interface is set up, the homeowner can immediately begin using the app. The same stands true for when the home is sold – transferring ownership from seller to buyer is easy. Some additional new features include:

  • Set and control multiple locations and systems, grouping into one or several zones – providing individual room control
  • Program cooling and heating schedules
  • Receive push notifications of system alerts including filter changes, system errors, low/high temperature alarms
  • Updated web app

The app works with iOS, Android or Fire OS enabled devices with the latest software. Homeowners can also access the app through their web browser at app.kumocloud.com

The kumo cloud app is available via app stores or at kumocloud.com.
