This quote, attributed to Aesop, sums up the recent donation from the Joseph Groh Foundation to Frances Glueck and her family.
Dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals in the contracting and construction trades facing life-altering disabilities, the foundation provided Frances and her family with a grant, which allowed them to convert their garage into a handicapped-accessible bedroom and bathroom.
Frances, the fourth of five children, was born in 2018 with a lifelong genetic condition − a deletion and addition on chromosome 5. This chromosomal disorder caused cognitive, developmental, and physical delays, along with some significant medical complications.
METUS supports garage conversion for Frances
The conversion of the Glueck family garage included pouring the cement floor, building a roll-in shower, and installing an HVAC system donated by Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US (METUS).
Joseph Groh, creator of the Joseph Groh Foundation, reached out to METUS CEO Mark Kuntz to ask if the company would contribute an all-electric, all-climate heat pump to provide heating and cooling for the space. After an immediate yes from Kuntz, the new bedroom-bathroom combination was outfitted with a Mitsubishi Electric .75-ton heat pump system.
“It was easy to say we would help Frances and her family, especially given the nature of the amazing, heartfelt work this foundation provides,” said Kuntz. “METUS is forever committed to creating comfortable, energy-efficient spaces for all to enjoy.”
The newly installed Mitsubishi Electric heat pump will not only provide energy-efficient heating and cooling for year-round comfort, but it also operates at a whisper-quiet sound level, making for a more relaxing space.
More about the Glueck family
Frances’ dad, Andrew, has been in the construction business his entire working life.
Andrew graduated from Texas A&M with a Bachelor of Science in construction science and has worked the past 17 years as a project manager for a construction company in Columbus, Texas. His background also includes working as a carpenter for a custom builder, a structural superintendent for a commercial builder, and a construction manager for the residential constructor Pulte Homes.

Established in 2009, the Joseph Groh Foundation has provided financial assistance totaling $1.2 million to 121 families in contracting and construction trades in 34 states. This assistance includes providing wheelchair-accessible vans, home/bath remodels, assistive technology, rehab equipment, home repairs, and more.
Joseph, an HVAC industry veteran, founded the organization after experiencing a life-altering accident during a bike ride, resulting in quadriplegia. Despite the challenges, his resilience inspired him to create the foundation.
